Tarleton pride on Pinterest

If you're on Pinterest and you follow the library, you may have noticed our Purple Pen--Writing & Art board, which spotlights contributions from Tarleton students, staff, and faculty.

We're only getting started and we'd love to have more pins to show off.  Help us celebrate Tarleton authors and artists on Pinterest.  If you know of a Tarleton author, artist or work that should be part of the board, let us know in the comments below.

Thank you.

We hope to add many more pins.

Dick Smith Library on Pinterest? How Pinteresting!

February is just around the corner and if you’re like me, you’ve probably been flocking to Pinterest searching for gift ideas, special recipes, or decorating ideas.

Well did you know that the Dick Smith Library has a Pinterest account?

You may be surprised to find that the library has 11 unique boards ranging in topics from library-specific to interesting Tarleton information.

For example, the “Purple Pen-Writing & Art” board showcases Tarleton faculty, staff, and student works, such as books or artwork.

There’s also a “Book Art” board which shows books that have been altered into works of art.
This may be a perfect gift idea for the book lover in your life or your local librarian ;)

Check us out and follow our boards if you’d like. We’re also open to any board or pin suggestions.

Happy Pinning!

Library + Pinterest = Success? Yes!

Welcome to all of our returning students and to the class of 2017. There are many resources at Tarleton State University to help you while you are a student here.

One of them, naturally, is the library.

One resource for student success that you might not expect us to have is our Pinterest board called "College Success." (Yes, we're on Pinterest!).  It features books and other resources on how to rock your first year of college.

A screenshot of our "College Success" Pinterest Board.

Most of the books on this board will be on our upper floor, or the "general stacks."
Each book has a Library of Congress call number (which is actually a combination of letters and numbers) that tell you what area the book is shelved in.

For example, the book below has the call number LB2343.3 .C62 2009.

A screenshot of our pin of "The Naked Roommate" on Pinterest.

This means you will look for the L section on our floor plan.

Floor plan created by Tracy Holtman.
When you find the Ls, you will look at the sides of the shelves for signs that tell you where the LB section is. Then look for LB2300, and so on, until you find your book.

If you need assistance, please ask whoever is at the Information Desk, and they'll be glad to help.

Best of luck during your first year at Tarleton State!

P.S. Don't forget to follow us on Pinterest.

Tarleton Library Gives Recognition Through Pinterest

Did you know that several of our Tarleton community are published writers? Did you know that we even have some talented artists among our crew? In order to show off the talents of our community, the library created a special board on Pinterest: Purple Pen - Writing & Art.

The Purple Pen not only showcases the Tarleton community but also provides links to those resources that we may have available in the library through our Discovery@Tarleton tool. Take some time to checkout the board and possibly some books.

There are many faculty, students, and staff that have worked hard to create these pieces of literature and artwork. The Library wanted them to know that we appreciate their hard work and dedication.

Do you know of any faculty, staff, or student that has been published or has had artwork displayed?  Please leave their name and title of work (book, article, and/or artwork), and we will gladly give them the recognition they deserve.

Tarleton Thursdays: Did you know?

As you know from a previous blog post done in January, the library has several outlets of social media. We have a Facebook page, Twitter, Pinterest, and Flickr, to name a few. You can find out when the library's upcoming events, hours, and resources that are available.

Did you know that we've had a Facebook page and Twitter since 2009, Flickr since 2007 and we just added Pinterest a few months ago. Makes you wonder how the library managed without social media before!

Tarleton Libraries Joined Facebook on October 16, 2009
@TarletonLib also began in 2009

Have any of our social media outlets ever helped you out? Let us know how we can better help you with your academic needs. As always, feel free to comment, like us, tweet or email us!

Call (254) 968-9249 or Email reference@tarleton.edu for help.
We love to help.

How very Pinteresting--the library is now on Pinterest

You may have heard about or even be on Pinterest, the visual social network whose popularity has skyrocketed in the last year and a half.
The library's Pinterest account.

The Dick Smith Library, in addition to being on Flickr, Foursquare, Twitter, Facebook, and of course Blogger, is now on Pinterest. Be sure to follow us.

By the way, the Texas Social Media Research Institute is having a Pinterest party in the Library Instruction Classroom (#139) on December 5 from 12:10-12:50.  Attendees are encouraged to bring food and crafts inspired by Pinterest.
