Her Texas: Story, Image, Poem & Song
On March 18th, 2015 two editors of the book Her Texas visited with students, staff and faculty at Tarleton. They introduced the recently released anthology and talked about their own experiences with women authors who are from Texas. Donna Walker-Nixon spoke about her reasons why she loved Texas Literature and her own history with it during her time in college. Rachel Crawford spoke about how Texas Literature impacted her life as a young girl. She read lots of books about cowboys, men who rode horses and raised cattle, but the women in the books were always just something to look at. It was hard for her to relate to a woman in those kinds of novels. That is why she had such a passion for this book because it gave her Texan women to relate to. There were two other editors for the book, Cassy Burleson and Ashley Palmer, who could not attend the discussion.
Donna and Rachel talked about the publishing process and how easy it was to get this book out with their publisher, Bryce Milligan, at Wings Press. In the book you will find 60 authors, artists, musicians, scholars and journalists who are from all over the state. Even one of Tarleton's own, Dr. Marilyn Robitaille, contributed to the book and was at the discussion panel to read one of her poems.
A signed copy of the book is to be donated to the library, so come and check it out! It's a beautiful book that shows the diversity of this great state we call Texas.
