Meet Our Staff: Sandra Nelson

Sandra Nelson
Library Assistant II
254-526-1618
snelson@tarleton.edu
Tarleton Library - Central Texas - Room 113, Bldg. 102
Oveta Culp Hobby Memorial Library
Killeen, Texas

I’m the periodicals assistant down here in Killeen, and I do all the mail processing, periodical processing to include claiming, and spend lots of time on the circulation desk. I also process books and videos. I’ve been working here for five and a half years, the first four as a part-timer.

I have a BA in Anthropology from the University of Oklahoma, and spent six years in the Army as a Signals Intelligence Analyst/Czech linguist.

In my spare time I read fantasy novels and European history and knit (not at the same time). I’m a Girl Scout leader, and I can never spend enough time with my three kids.

Wear Red on Friday!

National Wear Red Day - February 1, 2008 - is a day when Americans nationwide will wear red to show their support for women's heart disease awareness. This observance promotes the Red Dress symbol and provides an opportunity for everyone to unite in this life-saving awareness movement by showing off a favorite red dress, shirt, or tie, or Red Dress Pin.

Think before you party....drink?

College parties that boast drinking games or sexualized themes or costumes may encourage students to drink to a particularly excessive degree, a new study suggests. Instead of surveys, research assistants actually went to dozens of college parties and witnessed the goings-on themselves. They also conducted breath-tests on party-goers for blood alcohol concentrations. What they found was that students who played drinking games tended to imbibe more, as did women at "theme" parties -- especially those with sexualized themes.
